Applying plaster to a wall is Richard Rivera's passion. He's been a professional plasterer for over twenty-five years and loves all the different techniques; Venetian, Veneer, Skim Coating and repair. He's applied plaster in every color that can be imagined. And check out the texture on the wall above, see how it mimics the oak tree trunk next to it, that is Richard's work.  Whatever can be imagined, can be accomplished!

The art of plastering has been around for a long time. The Cheops Pyramid, built between 2589 and 2566 B.C. by the Egyptians, is one of the oldest examples of the use of this medium, (see: The Great Pyramid of Cheops) . There are many examples of plaster all over the Old World; the Roman Empire, Greece, the Middle East, India and China.

Plaster is a mixture of lime, sand and water that is applied as a liquid paste to ceilings and walls of a building and dries to a hard surface. Techniques have been developed to give this medium an incredible range of different effects. When applied properly, this finish is durable and will last, in some cases, thousands of years.

Proper training in the art of applying plaster to a wall is critical. There are so many variables in the application of this finish that are often misunderstood by the laborer. The goal is to train plasterers, from beginner to artisan, in proven techniques and applications that will meet industry standards.

The goal here is to provide:

*Descriptions and pictures of the different types of techniques.
*Education and training in the art of application.
*Information with regard to the use of green and sustainable products.
*Information on how to maintain your plaster finishes for many years.
*Information on repair techniques, when to repair and when to start fresh.
